Dog Sledding in the Lyngen Alps region2018-09-03T14:14:33+00:00

When you are in Northern Norway, close to the Lyngen Alps, you can’t miss the authentic dog sledding experience. At the edge of the Lyngen Alps region, east of Tromsø there’s a beautiful national park called Reisa National Park. The valley is defined by mountains and breathtaking scenery for a wonderful dog sledding adventure. With a little luck the northern lights will dance above the valley while you have a warm cup of hot chocolate.

At Lyngen North we provide you a unique dog sledding experience through this beautiful Reisa National Park where you are encouraged to help prepare the dogs and sleds. You even have the choice to be a musher for a day and steer your own sled of 6 to 8 dogs through the wonderful Reisa National Park. Our dog sledding guides will closely assist you and share their experience while you see what it takes to be a musher.

There are plenty opportunities to stop and take pictures and half way the dog sledding tour you will reach a Lavvu, the traditional Sami tent, where hot chocolate will be served and stories can be shared around the campfire. When everyone is warmed up and the sled dogs are rested you get ready for the return journey.

Lyngen North’s dog sledding tours are usually in the evening to increase chances of seeing the northern lights but during the weekend you can book day tours as well. A dog sledding tour takes approximately 3 hours and we encourage you to dress up warmly and comfortably. Please know that driving to the dog sledding takes about an hour. Transport can be provided for a additional cost.

Dog sledding is one of the national sports in Northern Norway. The most northern dog sledding race is held in Alta, just north of the Lyngen Alps.
